Michael Frederick has been in the restaurant business for 27 years, and self-employed
in the business since 1996. In February, Slidell will see the third anniversary of the opening
of his very popular restaurant, Michael's Restaurant and Lounge.
Michael Frederick and co-owner Eileen Keys sat down with us one lovely fall day (the
view of the Eden Isles Canal from the restaurant is spectacular!) to discuss the present and future
of the restaurant.
Michael's culinary expertise is in New World Creole cuisine with heavy
French and Italian influences, and he's branching out into Euro-Asian fusion and wild game.
The menu features Michael's creations, while the chefs' creativity is shown in the nightly
specials. Popular dishes include the Creole Sesame Tuna, an example of the fusion cuisine,
filets, prime rib, duck and various delectable seafood dishes. Everything at Michael's is
made to order, so dieters can take comfort in dining on a superior meal that fits into their
regimen.

And for those who want to unwind in the evenings, Michael's has one of the Northshore's
largest bars. If there's something you desire and Michael's doesn't have it on the bar, just
request it and they'll make sure to get it for you, even if you're the only one to drink it!
There's also an extensive wine list, with a featured wine every week, which is sure to please the
wine connoisseur as well as the casual wine sipper.
Michael's is a great place to relax after a long day. Sit on the back deck
overlooking the canal, at the lovely bar, or in the beautiful dining room. Come by boat and
watch the sun set, or visit Thursday night for live music with Monica Olivier, a guitarist and
vocalist. Saturday night features live music with Hank Mackie, a noted jazz guitarist.
Michael told us he feels very lucky to have them both share their talent at his restaurant, and both
nights are very popular. Remember, reservations are recommended...with all of the great
things going on at Michael's, you want to be guaranteed a table!
Michael's Restaurant and Lounge is active in the community, as well. Along
with being active members in the Louisiana Restaurant Association, they take part in charity events
such as the Gourmet Gala, Chef's Soiree, and Jazz on the Bayou.
Michael and Eileen's plans for the future include opening a reception
facility in Slidell. Until then, Michael's Restaurant and Lounge is available for full service
off-site catering, and the restaurant is available for private parties. For casual fine
dining and a superior staff, Michael's is a jewel in Slidell's crown, and Louisiana Gumbo's HotSpot
for December.
