For our April 2004 Louisiana Gumbo Hot Spot, we feature one of our
favorite restaurants, Assunta's Fine Italian Cuisine in Slidell. The following is taken
from an article that was recently featured in the Slidell Sentry-News, written by Slidell
Sentry-News' Entertainment Editor, John Perkins as part of their "Dining Out" feature.
The lunch hour at Assunta's is getting busier as people get to know that the
restaurant has begun opening for lunch. Additionally, now that we are in the Lenten
season, Ann Young Sergi has made several changes in the menu to satisfy those who follow the
dietary restrictions. A Shrimp Lasagna can now be found on the menu on Fridays and if you
have enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan served at the restaurant, it has been slightly modified for
the Lenten season making it a vegetarian style dish. One more item that will be found
during this season this the Seafood Cannelloni which was added this week.
"We decided the time is right for us to start serving
lunch," she said. "Business activity in this part of town has increased
dramatically in recent years and we can now offer people a place to enjoy their lunch in a place
that is not at all like some of the fast food establishments that are around here.
We know that we will be able to handle the customer requests as far as time is concerned,
getting them in and out as they require. We are also able to discern whether or not they
will have time for a more leisurely lunch and can accommodate them there as well."
Po-Boys and salads will be among the menu items available for lunch and Ann says that these can
be on the table in just five to ten minutes after the order is taken. "We will also
have a variety of appetizers as well as hot lunches available such as Pasta Jambalaya and
Crawfish Fettuccine." In the area of po-boys, favorites such as Italian sausage and
meatball po-boys will be on the menu as will seafood salads. "And there will be a
different lunch menu than will be found at dinner time," she added.
Assunta's is open for lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Dinner hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. for dinner and on Sunday
from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday Brunch is available from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Located just 1.6 miles west of the Northshore Mall on the Covington
Highway, Ann Young Sergi and the staff remind you that the restaurant is also available for
small parties of 30 - 40, for rehearsal dinners and other special occasions.
Assunta's is a very special place, serving truly authentic and
delicious Italian fare right here on the Northshore! This is why we are proud to feature
Assunta's as April's Louisiana Gumbo's Hot Spot.
